"3000 Miles to Graceland"

By Ted Pfeifer

You can blame the result of "3000 Miles to Graceland" on its director Demian Lichtenstein, you can also credit the same person for a fun, exciting, twisting story.

Lichtenstein can write he just can't direct. With the setup of a gang of men heisting a casino on Las Vegas dressed as Elvis impersonators you would think you were in for a good time. Then put a star powered cast of Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell, Christian Slater, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Ice T, Howie Long, Kevin Pollock and Jon Lovitz and you would think that you were in for an even better time.

But after you watch this movie you fell like Lichtenstein ought to pay you your money back. Costner has fun with being the bad-bad guy, Russell plays the good-bad guy and Cox plays the woman that plays Costner and Russell. As you see everything unfold you can only imagine what would have happened if this film would have been produced by Jerry Bruckheimer of "The Rock", "Bad Boys" and "Gone in 60 Seconds" fame, or directed by some of the hot directors Bruckheimer uses. If John Woo had directed it he would have had a field day with the characters in this story adding depth and style to some clever and hip scenes.

Watching this movie is like being frustrated for two straight hours. I could see people coming out of this movie angry. My suggestion would be on the DVD, they should give you all of the film they shot and let you edit it yourself, I would think 90% of the viewing public could put together a better film. In the end it would be time spent better driving 3000 miles to Graceland than spending two hours watching this movie. Lichtenstein has wasted great actors, and strong script and a lot of peoples time.
