Steven
Spielberg has found the cure for Insomnia, and it's called
"A.I."
"A.l."
is a boring, slow, talky piece of non-entertainment. I warn
you, do not think this is another "E.T.", if you
take kids to see this movie they will be bored out of their
heads.
This film is about a robot boy, played very well by Haley
Joel Osment, who is programmed to love his new human mother
and what happens when that love is not fully returned. The
robot boy named David is the center piece of the film and
Osment carries the load. Jude Law plays a robot as well and
brings the only real life to the film, other than him everyone
else is drab.
The movie follows David in his selfish quest to be loved more
by his mother, he can not allow his mother to share her love
between himself and his human brother. There is no emotional
attachment to the character which takes any drama away from
what is happening on screen.
As you may know this movie was the dream movie of director
Stanley Kubrick who passed away before he could make the film.
Over the last twenty years he has talked with Steven Spielberg
about the movie and Steven was given the blessing to make
it in his place.
Now here is the tough part about this review. Technically
the movie is simply amazing because it has the touches of
two of the greatest directors of all time in Kubrick and Spielberg.
It will be studied for years to come for its mastery of camera
movements and angles, lighting, the mixture of special effects
and so on, but it is not entertaining at all. The screenplay
in which Spielberg wrote would make a great book but not a
good movie.
So if you are looking for a film that has been superbly put
together than check this out. But if you want to be kept awake
and entertained than go see something else.
