"Along Came A Spider"

By Ted Pfeifer

The Prequel to "Kiss the Girls", slowly wraps you in its web and takes you on a twisting journey.

Morgan Freeman once again stars as forensic detective Alex Cross. The film opens with a explosive scene and then gets into its mystery.

The story revolves around the kidnapping of a Senator's daughter from a private school and the kidnapper who brings Cross into the mix. It moves swiftly in its set up and then slows down as the groundwork is laid for a great final third of the film.

Monica Potter, Penelope Ann Miller, Michael Wincott and a host of others whose faces you will recognize fill out a well formed cast. Potter plays a Secret Service agent who was in charge of the kidnapped girl and now must help Cross find her so she can gain back her standing in the service. Freeman and Potter have good chemistry together as partners forced together to reach a common goal.

This is James Pattersons first Alex Cross novel, yet Hollywood decided to make "Kiss the Girls" first which then made for some interesting filmmaking in "Along Came A Spider". This film had to be on its own because in the timeline of events "Kiss the Girls" had not yet happened. So we are introduced once again to Alex Cross and are able to get comfortable with him.

If you ask me it is worth it to get caught in the web of intrigue in "Along Came A Spider".
