"Any Given Sunday " A Football Film Hitting at the Perfect Time of Year.
A football film hitting the video stores at the perfect time of year. "Any Given Sunday" gives Jamie Foxx a chance to become a star. He delivers a very good performance as a young undisciplined quarterback forced into the starting role when the decorated veteran, played by Dennis Quaid, goes down with an injury. Oliver Stone directs as only he can, with a fast moving camera and a fast talking script. The movie is loaded with stars. Joining Foxx and Quaid are Al Pacino, James Woods, L.L. Cool J, and Cameron Diaz. The soundtrack is loaded with heavy rap and some rock and roll. Pacino plays an aging coach who has won some championships but is losing touch with the younger generation of players. The conflict between Foxx and Pacino heats up as they soon learn that they need to understand and work together if they want to reach the top of the game. There are some amazing scenes as the camera is taken inside of the game and shows the true violence that goes on in the trenches. This is not a movie that all football fans will love and it is not a movie that all football fans will hate. I must say that it is the perfect movie for the perfect time of year. |
