'BAIT' Take It.

By Ted Pfeifer

If you have been fishing around for a movie to see, set a date for "BAIT". Jamie Foxx stars in this combo of "Enemy of the State" and "48 Hours". Foxx who made a star turn in the Oliver Stone football drama "Any Given Sunday" gets back to his roots and delivers a fantastic comic performance. He also shows that he can become an action hero along the line of a Wesley Snipes. After all of the subpar releases these last few weeks "Bait" has saved the month. Antoine Fuqua who last directed Chow Yun Fat and Mira Sorvino in "The Replacement Killers" shows some more promise. The action is crisp and the laughs come at the right times.

With a good supporting cast which includes Doug Hutchison and David Morse both from "The Green Mile" and Kimberly Elise from "Beloved", Fuqua is able to move the story along and keep you entertained. Foxx plays a bumbling crook who is implanted with a tracking device by Morse in the hopes that he will lead them to an even bigger criminal. Foxx is unaware of his mission and attempts to carry on his life. The problem is that things have changed since he has been in prison and when things change, he must as well.

There are some chases by foot, by car and by horse all of which have a fresh look to them. This is a very enjoyable film and worth the price of a ticket.
