You could call this "The General's Daughter" part 2 or something like that.

"Basic", starring John Travolta as an ex-Army Ranger, current DEA suspended agent is a movie full of twists and turns. Some you see coming and some you don't.

The story is simple, Samuel L. Jackson is a commander who leads six of his rangers on a training exercise in Panama. Problem is only two come back alive.

Travolta's character is brought in to find out how and why, much to the dismay of Connie Nielson's character. Nielsen is the investigating officer whom the Colonel doesn't believe will be able to solve the case. So he brings in his old buddy Travolta.

The movie follows the interrogation of the two returning rangers.

But who do you believe? Why are they telling different stories? And, what did happen out in the forest?

The movie floats around and hits slow spots at times but is twisty enough to keep the interest up.

It is not a great film but it does what it intends to do and keeps you guessing.

The action is fierce and the gore is kept low, except in a couple of intense scenes.

The supporting cast of Giovanni Ribisi, Taye Diggs and Tim Daly among others perform well and don't ruin the film.

If there is a criticism it would be Nielson's attempt at a southern accent that floats in and out worse than Kevin Costner in "Robin Hood".

Travolta looks good and pulls off his character with some good lines and seems to be having fun.

The movie is just over an hour and a half, so go enjoy and don't expect too much..
