'Coyote Ugly' a "Chick Flick" and a "Flick for Chicks."
The perfect match of a "chick flick" and a "flick with chicks". "Coyote Ugly" is the most surprising film of the summer. If someone walked up to a screenwriter and said I want you to write a story that will bring women to the theater, but it also must have components for men to want to see it, "Coyote Ugly" is what you would end up with. Let me start off by saying that when I went to see this movie, the line was so large that the theater filled up and people were turned away. The crowd was a mixture of young and old and men and women, and virtually everyone enjoyed it. When the movie ended there was a large ovation. The movie stars newcomer Piper Perabo as a young woman living at home with her father in a small town in New Jersey. Her mom had past away five years before and was a singer songwriter. Now Piper decides she wants to leave her home and move to New York City to try and become a star. All she wants to do is write the music but not sing it. She finds life in the big city very hard and can't make ends meet so she has to get a job. She just happens to get hooked up at a bar named Coyote Ugly, where women make the rules and run the bar. There is great music and dancing in this film and it has a lot of heart. John Goodman plays her father and steals the show while he is in it. The thing that surprised me the most about this film is that it is being marketed as a cross between "Flashdance" and "Cocktail" but it has more to it than those. This movie could be absolutely huge because it has it all for men and women. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has done it again and made a movie that packs energy and story together to make a great summer movie experience. This movie is about the empowerment of women and following your dreams. These Coyotes are anything but Ugly.
