"The
Forsaken "
WOW !!!!!! A real old-time horror film with a few modern twists.
" The Forsaken", written and directed by J.S. Cardone,
is a great mixture of the classic vampires tales of old, The
Lost Boys", "Near Dark", and "John Carpenter's
Vampires". The story opens with Sean (Kerr Smith), hired
to drive a car cross-country from Los Angeles to Florida.
On the way, he meets up with a hitchhiker, Nick (Brender Fehr)
who is a vampire hunter, which Sean doesn't know about until
they find Megan (Isabella Miko) who was left for dead by the
vampires. As the boys encounter Megan, Nick explains to Sean
what is really going on, only to discover that Sean was bitten,
and is now infected. They decide to use Megan
for bait, as once infected, victims become homming beacons
for Kit, the vampire leader. (Jonathon Schaech in a great
role !)
If the boys can kill Kit, the virus will be reversed and those
infected will become healthy humans again. Now it's a race
against time as the victims are slowly "turning" into vampires
and Sean is starting to show some signs of the "virus".
The movie doesn't rely much on audacious special effects or
typical vampire fare. At one point Nick explains that what
we know of vampires isn't true and puts a new twist on vampire
lore.
Shot mostly at night and in the desert, with a group of vampire
thugs, more vicious than those seen in "Near Dark"
or "The Lost Boys", "The Forsaken" should
hit the spot with horror fans, as well as if you like vampires,
this is fresh take on a story we've seen before!
