"Get Carter"

By Ted Pfeifer

Sylvester Stallone makes his comeback in "Get Carter". Stallone leads a huge cast that includes Miranda Richardson, Rachael Leigh- Cook, Alan Cumming, Mickey Rourke and last years Best Supporting Actor winner Michael Caine. Caine also starred in the original "Get Carter".

As with all remakes this has been updated to include computer disks, the internet and a director who uses fast action and fast editing. The story picks up with Carter's (Stallone) brother having died and so Carter goes off to Seattle to mourn the loss. He was not close with his brother or his family, but soon discovers that his brother may have been murdered.

As he tries to become close to his niece and sister in law he also gets caught up in exacting revenge on whoever was behind the death. Carter who is a Las Vegas hitman by trade has a way with getting what he wants from people, even if they don't want to give up information. The direction is fast and furious and includes two great car chases. It also has an excellent beginning and sets each character up in different moods with the use of music.

The problem is that director Stephen Kay gets over zealous with the camera movements and editing. So much so it can get dizzying to watch. After his performance in "Cop Land", Stallone has put together another fine piece of acting. This movie reminds me of "Payback" because it is gritty and unforgiving. It is worth it to Get a Ticket for "Get Carter".
