"Gone in 60
Seconds" More than just a great pair of lips.
This movie
is everything that you would want from a Jerry Bruckheimer production.
It is loud, fast, slick, and cool. You have guys talkin' big and acting
tough. And a sexy chick thrown in as well.
The story is simple and here it is. Nic Cage plays a retired car thief
named Memphis who has a brother named Kip, played by the up and coming
Giovanni Ribisi. Kip tries to follow in his brothers infamous footsteps
but blows the job. Now Kip is going to die unless Memphis can steal 50
cars in 24 hours for the bad guy. This poses a problem because Memphis
doesn't have all of his old pals to help him out. He first seeks out Robert
Duvall and he and Memphis set out to recruit the old crew. Angelina Jolie
plays Memphis' former flame named Sway and she spends time showing of
her famous lips.
The movie glides along and it lasts two hours but feels more like twenty
minutes. The Director Dominic Sena doesn't waste a lot of time developing
each character, he gives just what you need to know. You know what each
member of the teams specialty is and you know what they need to accomplish.
Delroy Lindo and Timothy Olyphant play the detectives on the case who
have been trying to catch Memphis for a long time and so there is some
suspense to what is going to happen. And there is a thrilling car chase
near the end of the film.
It is not as good as the one in "The French Connection" or "Bullit" or
even Cage's film "The Rock" but it is still pretty hot. The movie showcases
some very cool cars including the centerpiece a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT
that made the audience that I was with mouths water. For a cool summer
movie this flick delivers just what you would expect. Don't waste any
more minutes and go see "GONE IN 60 SECONDS"
