Woody
Allen's new film about Hollywood delivers laughs a plenty.
Woody
Allen stars with Tea' Leoni, Debra Messing, George Hamilton,
and Treat Williams in his latest take on Hollywood and the
making of motion pictures.
This
film brings Allen back to prominence as a comedic film maker
that is able to make an audience laugh with dialogue not gross
out jokes. It is also nice to see a movie in which the director
can create a mood and a setting that makes you feel immediately
comfortable.
The
movie is about a one-time hot director played by Allen who
has had a tough time for the last ten years, he has been divorced
from his younger wife played by Tea Leoni and now he is stuck
doing commercials in the snow covered mountains of Canada.
Leoni
is now the fiancé of Treat Williams who is the head
of Galaxy Studios, the film "The City That Never Sleeps"
has been greenlit by Williams and now they need a director,
Allen is perfect for the script, but how can he work for his
ex-wife who is producing the film as well as the man whole
stole her from him?
That
is the question that lies at the heart of the film and it
lends itself to some great comedic situations. Allen is great
as the, get this, neurotic older guy who seems to always have
a young woman on his arm.
The
problem comes in when just two days before filming is to begin,
Allen gets hysterical blindness and now must not blow his
comeback chance. He must keep this malady a secret from everyone
on the set.
The
performances are top notch, hopefully this will get Leoni
the recognition she truly deserves. The supporting cast of
Debra Messing, Treat Williams and especially George Hamilton
do great jobs.
It
is nice to see Allen get back to a main stream film and I
hope it finds it audience.
