"Me, Myself
and Irene" I loved it, no I hated it, I loved it, I hated it, I loved
it...
Give Jim
Carrey another Golden Globe. Carrey delivers an amazing two sided performance
as a Rhode Island state trooper with two personalities. Carrey plays Charlie
Baileygates, a mild-mannered guy whose wife has triplets. The problem
is the triplets are African-American. Then his wife runs off with the
father of the kids, a limousine driving dwarf, who happens to be a genius.
Charlie keeps the kids and raises them as if they were his own. After
years of keeping his feelings inside they finally come out in the personality
change from Charlie to Hank the angry and aggressive side.
The movie written and directed by the Farrelly brothers who brought us
such distasteful yet extremely funny films, "Dumb and Dumber", "Kingpin"
and "There's Something About Mary" have added to their destruction of
the taste barrier. They walk up to the line of bad taste and instead of
tip-toeing over it they jump with both feet. There are scenes that will
make you cry because you are laughing so hard. It is not a good idea to
be drinking a pop during the film for fear that it may shoot out your
nose.
Renee' Zellwegger, Chris Cooper and Robert Forster round out a strong
supporting cast, but this is Carrey's film. And Carrey carries the film
with ease. He shows how talented he is by an extended fight sequence between
Hank and Charlie, he pulls no punches and bends and twists his body in
shapes that are unthinkable. For a million laughs go see this movie. You
may need to see it more than once because you will miss some jokes while
you are laughing at a previous one. And for more Jim Carrey rent the Golden
Globe winning performances of "The Truman Show" and "Man on the Moon"
and compare it to "Me, Myself and Irene" and you will see what an incredible
talent Jim Carrey is.
