"Minority
Report" is based on a 1956 short story written by Philip
K. Dick. The movie tells the story of a Washington D.C. Precrime
cop named John Anderton played by Tom Cruise.
The
way the Precrime division works is as follows, there are three
"precogs", the "precogs" are psychic who
see the future, but the only future they see are murders.
Once they see a killing they send the data to Anderton and
his fellow cops and they then in turn try to stop the murder
before it happens.
The
start of the tension begins when Anderton is is tagged as
a future killer. Anderton then is on the run as he tries to
find out why he is being framed.
Cruise
plays Anderton with a sense of an inner struggle that he just
can't deal with. He feels the pressure of being the top cop
and can't seem to come to grips of with why he would be so
hated that he would be framed.
Anderton
is a futuristic gumshoe as he sifts through the mystery of
who he can and cannot trust.
Steven
Spielberg directs in an old film noir style that shows why
he is such a talented filmmaker. He also uses different lenses
and film stocks to get an original look to his movie.
Spielberg
keeps the pace going and is not afraid to take this film into
much darker places than he normally does. Sure he gets Spielbergy
nearing the end but he doesn't lose it. The special effects
are top notch and his vision of the future is wonderful.
Cruise
delivers the goods in another fine performance following "Vanilla
Sky" and "Magnolia". He also keeps his action
going strong as he did in "Mission Impossible 2".
Max Von Sydow, Samantha Morton also star along with Colin
Farrell who is just a few steps away from being Hollywood's
next big star.
All
the acting and directing added to a twisting mystery give
us one of the summers best films.
The
movie takes today's hottest star and top director to create
a new world with a vision that others may try to achieve but
very few will.
