"Remember
the Titans" A Very Believable True Story.
Denzel Washington
delivers another powerhouse performance as Herman Boone, a high school
football coach that must not only teach football but the game of life
as well. He once again shows why he is considered one of the best actors
of our time.
"Remember the Titans" is based on a true story. It tells the tale of high
school football in Virginia in 1971. Football meant everything to the
people of Alexandria and the school board was forced to integrate an all
black school and an all white school. Boone was brought in to coach the
team taking the position from Bill Yoast played by Will Patton. Yoast
who had delivered state championships was not happy with being demoted
and either was the town.
His players vowed not to play for a black coach. But as Boone and Yoast
learned to work together their players learned as well. Washington who
has dealt with racial themes in such films as "The Hurricane", "Malcolm
X" and "Glory" shines as a coach who will not accept anything but being
perfect. Patton, who has starred in other Jerry Bruckheimer productions,
"Armageddon" and "Gone in 60 Seconds" once again puts together another
fine performance in a supporting role.
There is one person who steals scene after scene and that is nine -year-old
Hayden Panettiere who plays Yoasts daughter. She knows more about football
than most men and would rather watch game film than play with dolls. She
is just great and adds some comic touches to a heavy subject. The football
team is played by actors that you have seen in other pictures and work
together as an ensemble to create very believable characters.
"Remember
the Titans" is a great movie, it takes a true story and brings it to life.
It is very inspirational and although some critics may say it is predictable,
I say it is real. You will never forget "Remember the Titans".
