"Tomb
Raider"
Get
Nervous, Get Very Nervous.
First things First
Paramount Pictures are keeping film critics and press out
of screenings for "Tomb Raider". I spoke with a
representative of one of the PR firms used by Paramount and
was told that they are worried about the film and want very
limited coverage from a critical standpoint on the film until
after it opens. Paramount is hoping for a big opening and
after that the fear is word of mouth will cut the life short
on what they hope will be a new franchise. I also spoke with
someone at Paramount and they gave me the same answer....
Unfortunately
for them someone was going to see the film, So, Here is the
review....
It is simply amazing that with the money, advertising, talent
and backing of this movie such a mess could come of it.
Angelina Jolie will surly fill the young boys dreams much
as Leonardo DiCaprio took care of all the little girls in
"Titanic". Jolie stars as Lara Croft the video game
hottie now made into a live action movie character. She is
basically a female Indiana Jones but with more spunk and fire.
Jolie does what she can with the character and with the accent
she uses but once again Hollywood had tried to hard to make
a video game a movie. Paramount has the hopes of making Lara
Croft the women's version of James Bond and very well may
be successful because it is somewhat entertaining.
The movie bounces around from different settings of time and
place and has great effects and sets, but Simon West, who
also directed "Con Air" appears to not have cared
about things like plot, continuity or basic storytelling.
With fast cuts and a booming soundtrack it has the goods for
a mindless summer movie but nothing more than that.
If you like looking at Angelina Jolie's lips and breasts than
this is the show for you. If you want too see a woman kicking
butt this is for you. If you want a well made movie this is
not for you.
The movie is not good in terms of the making of it but it
will be critic proof and lots and lots of people will like
it. But most critics won't.
I
say enter this tomb at your own risk.
