Adrian Lyne gives us a whole new Fatal Attraction with his new film "Unfaithful".

Diane Lane stars as Connie Sumner who on all appearances is a happily married woman. Her husband is an owner of a armored car company, played by Richard Gere and they have a cute son, a big house out of the city and a maid. What more could a woman ask for.

Well in this case Connie wants a hunk of a man played by Olivier Martinez. They meet during a wind storm and then her life and marriage is blown away.

Adrian Lyne who has brought "Fatal Attraction", "Indecent Proposal", and "9 1/2 Weeks" once again delivers a sexually charged drama that leaves its audiences something to talk about.

Diane Lane shows why she will now be a star, she has been solid in the past but finally got the chance to be the centerpiece of a film. She goes through all of the emotions, from the nervousness of meeting and being attracted to someone new, to the uneasiness of the time spent together just talking, to the unbridled power of the first sensuous touch. Lane also shows what it is like to feel the guilt and the pain that you hurt your loved ones so you could have personal pleasure.

Lyne directs the love scenes with a sense of purpose, he doesn't shoot the sex just for sex sake. He gives it a humanity and an uncomfortable feeling that would go hand in hand with the unfaithfulness.

Richard Gere is very solid as a man in undeniable love with his wife, who at one point suspects that she has changed but does not want to believe it. He gives an understated performance that one would think would go along with the clouded mind a person must have when he finds out he has been played for a fool.

Martinez has no problem giving off the sex symbol vibe and at times comes off smooth and at other times a bit sleazy.

The main thing that made "Unfaithful" work for me is that it didn't fall into the same old cliché of a woman finding the pleasures of being with another man because she wasn't getting loved at home. It is a story in which a real woman and real family can run into problems when honesty and trust is not in the picture.

Now "Unfaithful" is not a great film but it sure does make you think and gives you a something to talk about.
