"Valentine"
People
are going to say that this is just another rehashed slasher
flick that is just trying to make some money. Well it is just
another slasher flick and it is just trying to make money,
but what movie is not trying to make money and how many truly
original movies come out every year?
Ok, now that I have gotten that out of my system, "Valentine"
delivers the goods. If you look at the horror films that have
been released in recent memory it all started with "Scream"
which was absolutely amazing, then we got the rash of "I Know
What You Did Last Summer", "Urban Legend", some other really
bad movies and their sequels. "Valentine" fits in the upper
half of those recent films.
Denise Richards and David Boreanaz star along with the typical
slate of attractive young women. The nice thing about this
movie is that the killings are very violent and real. The
makers of the movie did not try to think up new crazy styles
of killing people, they went with what works, keeping it simple.
They also have alot of fun with the whole singles dating scene
and the film delivers some good laughs. The movie starts out
with a scene showing what happens to a young boy at a junior
high school dance, this opening brings back memories of "Carrie"
and the style brings back memories of "Halloween". The movie
then begins thirteen years later and we're off an running.
Tension builds, twists are thrown your way and you are kept
guessing until the final scene.
It doesn't appear as though a sequel would be made, but hell
you never know. If you have had withdrawals of not seeing
a good teen slasher flick than go see "Valentine". And the
next time someone asks you to be their Valentine, you'd better
say yes.
