"What Women Want" Drop the Kids at the Grinch and Go See This One.

By Ted Pfeifer

Mel Gibson delivers a truly inspired performance in the new comedy "What Women Want". Gibson stars as Nick Marshall a high powered Ad executive who is up for a promotion to Creative Director of a large Chicago advertising firm.

Helen Hunt stars as the woman hired instead to take the position. Gibson is a big time player, sleeping with different women all the time. He also happens to have an ex-wife that is getting remarried and a teenage daughter who will be spending the weekend at his apartment. Hunt enters the picture as his new boss and his first thought is that he needs to sabotage her so he can get the job he feels should have been his.

As he is doing some homework she asked him to do, he slips and falls into the bath tub along with a hair dryer, he is electrocuted and when he wakes up he can suddenly hear what women are thinking. The story takes off from there and is extremely funny. Gibson and Hunt have fantastic chemistry.

The supporting cast includes Marisa Tomei, Alan Alda, Lauren Holly and Bette Midler. The only real problem with the film is that it has some sub-plots that don't really work and it gets a little long near the end. If they shaved about ten minutes off it would have been perfect. This film is definitely worth seeing. It does skew to an older audience so drop the kids of at the Grinch and go see "What Women Want".
